Spin
This delightful image of Jennifer has an interesting
connection with her journey. Initially we took Spin in color, although there
was not much color in it. It was an image that went into Jennifer's gift
collection to her husband.
Sometime later I began to play with it. The image seemed to
suggest a fluid movement to me. So I created the motion blur around her. The
natural color of the image seemed to distract from the simplicity of my vision
so into black and white it went.
But that was not quite right so I tested some monochrome
colors with it. This shade of blue felt right. The image still needed a point
of tonal interest though, a third gravitational body, that would sparkle
interest. The lips won for the focal point. I dusted her lips with a slightly
warmer tone.
When it was accepted for inclusion in an international
exhibit book of photographs we called Jennifer up to let her know. Well she was
excited too. In our catching up we found she had embarked on a new sideline,
teaching pole dancing, a refreshing jolt from her day job of software designer.
The spinning of the image was a perfect reflection of her
new interest; the sensuality of the image complimented this perfect fit.
Her image has also turned heads of judges:
Alberta Professional Photographers Assoc gave it the nod for
Best Digital Portrait
Calgary Stampede International Photo Salon – Selected for
National Display
Professional Photographers of America – Selected for Display
and chosen for International book publication.
We are waiting with fingers crossed on its results from
several other contests.
