Boudoir image of a senior woman photographed by Inner Spirit Photography Studio Calgary's Mark Laurie.

It was the first question she asked when she sat down. She looked up at me with wide-eyed hope. She had already declared that she was just about to turn 70. Doing a sexy nude and boudoir lingerie book had been on her bucket list for literally decades. It had taken her this long to get her nerve up. She hoped she was not to late. I will tell you how that turned out in a bit, but first . . .

Is being sexy just for the young? And what is “young”? Can a woman be “young at heart” but too old in body for sexy photos? Would the lover who adores her want risqué images of her adorned in very little or nothing at all?

Our oldest client who came in for sexy photographs was 91, now we don’t get many that age, but in 32 years of nude and boudoir photography, we have seen the age shift up. Women have changed, and their physical appearance and personal energy have vastly changed. Along with that are the things they desire to do.

Today, women have become vibrant at any age. My wife has an aunt who is 97. She is just now starting to get a little forgetful, but she still sparkles. I have found women in their 50s and 60s starting fresh new chapters of living and exploring life.  Photography sessions like what we do, enhances that. Their lovers still delight fully in receiving images.

So we have found that there is no age barrier except the one a woman creates herself. If a woman believes she is too old to do “X”, then she is.

Our 70 year old client did have her session on her birthday. She felt so empowered by it, she took out a personal ad that was very cute. The result is she is now getting married to a great guy who responded. He loved her book, by the way.

What do you think? Can a woman be too old for sexy photos? Do you have an age when you would stop considering to do that? Could aging be a trigger for getting a session done now, while you are still “young”.
