Allure Magazine photo shoot of Minnie Driver

“. . .Let Them See You Naked, it tends to shut them up.”

Minnie Driver’s comments during her interview fascinated me. But how this image came to be her Twitter post is even more intriguing. The above photo image is from Allure’s Naked Truth: Celebrity Nudes series, taken at Milk Studios.

Allure Magazine does an annual nude celebrity shoot. It’s racier than Maxim, oddly, but still pretty tame. While they are nude, it remains pretty tame with very clever posing.  What remains, though, has nothing to cover up.

The part that fascinated me about Minnie’s interview was her reflection that she could not have done this at 25, at that time “All I saw then were the flaws.”  Now she is 44 and thrilled to be doing it, in a big way.

Okay, I will grant you she is not the average 44 year old woman, but her sense of confidence remains the same as the women in their 30s and 40s that we see. While they nearly all wish they had done this back then, with the firmness of youth, with glowing skin and breasts unaltered by babies.

There is a body confidence that comes with age, although as Minnie says, “I still see the flaws, but I see what’s great more . . .”

While we pose and style to hide the flaws and only leave the beauty, there is a leap of faith this will happen. Mostly though, women who pose nude in their 30s, 40s and even 50s have an awareness of their bodies they want to capture and express.

It’s about time, is the most common thing we hear.

Her parting comment was  “I was a little bit nervous, but I actually really love my body . . . There is such a grace to being confident in who you are.”

I like that: a grace to being confident in who you are. One of the most common comments we get is how the nude or even the boudoir photo experience transforms our client’s confidence. It’s pretty cool to be part of that.

A bit bolder is one of our water shots.

Now about Minnie posting her Allure image on Twitter… it was a response to a sneaky paparazzi shot of her in a bikini playing with her child, then adding some cruel comments with its posting. She said, “If you want to people to stop talking about how you look in a bikini, let them see you naked. It tends to shut them up.”

It seems to have worked.

PS: the Allure May issue with Minnie, Kristen Bell, Jenna Dewan Tatum, and Nia Long is out in the Newsstands along with the full articles of how they felt about totally disrobing for America.
